Garden Party Concert

Updated: Jul 24

On July 3rd, Kirsty and I took a road trip north to the leafy department of Deux-Sevres. There, we were able to benefit from a wonderful initiative put into action by the commune of Chef-Boutonne. Knowing that the area benefits from many beautiful, historical chateaux, owners were approached and invited to host concerts in their homes or, as in our case, their gardens. We were generously welcomed by Michel and Elizabeth in the village of Tillou, performing on a temporary stage created by the commune. We played a programme of classical and traditional music, as well as a couple of original compositions. The concert was received with warmth and generosity by the public. We feel that we have made many new friends and hope to return in 2025.

What can we learn? Firstly - advice to any professional musicians playing outdoors: bring clothes pegs (see photos...) It was very windy and scores risked being blown into the nearby river! On a more-serious note, five hours in the car in one day was a challenge. I think that if we are fortunate enough to return to the little village of Tillou, we'll try to create a mini-tour and try to find two or three dates in the area. That way we can stay over and spread the mileage over a few days! Thank you to Maeva Brochard, Coordinatrice des animations for these lovely pictures and memories
